For 30 years we have never used any antibiotics, steroids, or hormones. No pesticides, no herbicides, and no genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Our cattle are grass fed and finished as nature intends, and they are never fed any animal byproducts. We believe in healthy animals and healthy people.

There is a lot of information about why grass-fed beef is healthier than grain-fed, but it comes down to this: cattle are ruminants, evolved to live on grasses and forages. Our cattle eat a variety of Missouri forages including fescue, lespedeza, vetch, clover, and cheat grass — as well as several plants often called weeds. We never use herbicides or pesticides. Winter forage is hay made from these same pastures. These cattle are born and raised here, and are never fed any feed from animal sources.

The cattle and the farm were certified organic in 2003. The state of Missouri later discontinued its certification program, but our practices never changed — before certification, during it, or after.
These are grass-fed, certified organic cattle raised on a certified organic farm (2003). I let others make the health claims and explain why grass-fed beef is healthier than cattle raised in feedlots with antibiotics, steroids, pesticides, and high-energy grains that cattle never evolved to eat. I raise the cattle the way I want my own children to eat them — they turn out to be delicious as well. I feel very fortunate to be able to eat this beef, and I hope others can too. I would like to say that I am “saddened” by the very fact that there is such a thing as “organic” food, because I believe all food should be raised this way and there should be no need for such a category. There is, however, and I hope I can help people be healthy and improve their world, at least a little.
